Block of Type
My boyfriend and I rode our bikes in his neighborhood near Toco Hills/North Druid Hills. I tried to find typography other than all the obvious type you see on building fronts and billboards.
...and this is what I saw:
(on the front of my bike)
(one of my favorites)
(they used an upside down "U" for the "N")
(spayed on a parking space)
(sticker on Trevor's bike)
(Old stuff is always cool)
(Trevor's tattoo...I really like the "Dweebs" part)

Contemporary Design Trendzzz
So, I looked at a couple of articles about Graphic Design trends for 2011, and I've decided it comes down to three basic things:

1.) Simplicity

2.) More Typography

3.) Better use of the Grid

That's good stuff!
This is what I like :
These first two remind me of Josef Muller-Brockmann...and I just love the simplicity and structure. I guess I'm really drawn to solid colors, silhouettes, and strong text.

This next one is by Chris Ashworth. Gregg mentioned this guy to us in typography one day. Most of his stuff has really strong and interesting type. I love it.

I just stumbled upon this, and I think its great. The simplicity, the colors...it just looks so elegant to me.
Aaaaaand, this is what I do NOT like:
I'm sure someone was thinking "yeah, lets do something simple, and fresh....white background...simple text. That'll really be a good identity for Walmart's Great Value brand"
-________-
No, guys. This looks cheap.
I like simple....but not this. It just doesnt work for this brand...well, really, it wouldn't work for anything. Its ugly.

The Best?
In choosing my best pieces from my work last year, I would definitely choose the CD package project I did for GRD 3000 as #1. I believe it is my most successful, and I had the most fun doing it. I wouldn't change a thing about it.
Next, I actually really like my logo. In the black version, it is both sleek and fun. I also enjoy the use of negative and positive space. Could it be better? I'm sure I could do some tweeking.
I suppose my next favorite/best piece would be this book cover I did...however, I did this on my own, as an "upgrade" to the book cover I originally turned in for GRD 3000:
It could definitely use some adjustments with picture placement and the text on the back. However, I like the simplicity of the front.
The next piece would be the poster I did. I really just love the simplicity of it...however, I think the text at the bottom needs some help:
And lastly, because I feel like I should choose at least one thing from my GRD 3200 class, I would have to say this logo didn't turn out half bad. I like it, I do....but I just feel like I could have explored more. On the bright side, I'm proud of myself for making both of the fonts I used.
